How does Airlink work without internet?
Airlink uses the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi antennas in your phone to create direct connections with other nearby devices, forming a local network independently of the web.
Is my data secure?
Yes. Airlink uses the industry-standard Signal Protocol. This means only you and the recipient can read your messages; even nodes relaying the message cannot see the content.
What is the range?
Direct range is typically 50-100 meters, but the mesh network extends this. Your message can travel miles by hopping through other users in between.
Does it drain my battery?
Airlink is optimized for low power consumption. It uses peer-to-peer technologies like Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) where possible and only activates high-bandwidth Wi-Fi Direct when transferring large files.
Can I use it for group chats?
Yes! Airlink supports both private one-on-one messaging and group chats. In a group, messages are synchronized across all nearby participants automatically.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Airlink is completely decentralized. Your identity is tied to your device's unique cryptographic keys, which are generated locally. No phone number or email required.
What happens if no one is nearby?
If you are completely isolated, messages will be stored on your device and sent automatically as soon as another Airlink node comes within range.
Is it completely free?
Yes, Airlink is an open-source project and completely free to use. There are no subscriptions, ads, or hidden costs.
